The Towing and Recovery Association of America, Inc.® (TRAA) is “The Voice of America’s Towing Industry”!
For over 40 years we have taken that slogan seriously as we work to improve the industry’s voice in federal legislation, education, and communication. This is “your” national towing association.
OVERVIEW
Founded in 1979 in Kansas City, Missouri TRAA is the umbrella trade group and national voice of the towing and recovery industry. TRAA represents the entire industry which includes an estimated 35,000+ towing companies that operate more than 210,000 commercial motor vehicles and employ more than 350,000 professionals in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and many Territories. TRAA’s membership includes professionals from the United States, Canada, and abroad.
TRAA is a 501 (c)(6) nonprofit membership organization representing the nation's towing industry, governed by a representative board of directors whose officers are elected from the membership.
TRAA represents the interests of the towing and recovery industry on Capitol Hill. We also sponsor annual events and meetings that are attended by members as well as state association officers and leaders. Additionally, TRAA produces an array of educational products supporting professionalism in the towing and recovery industry.

- To foster and promote the interests and welfare of towing and recovery operators in the United States of America and to encourage towing professionalism and quality customer service throughout the world.
- To foster and encourage cooperation and unity among associations and companies in our industry through fair competition and good fellowship.
- To represent the industry at the federal level and be ready to provide hands-on advice and expertise when called upon to serve the legitimate interests of the towing and recovery industry; and promote the enactment of uniform legislation that fosters professionalism, quality service, healthy competition, and fair compensation.
