National Move Over Law Day Resolution: Senate Version Pending

TRAA is pleased to report that as a result of our efforts on the National Move Over Law Day Resolution in the House, Senator Richard Blumenthal intends to introduce a Senate companion version of the same resolution this August. TRAA is working in cooperation with the Senator's staff on gaining industrywide and interdisciplinary support, and all-important co-sponsors ahead of the Senate introduction.

Both the House and Senate must pass versions of the resolution in order for it to be enacted. TRAA is in the process of securing formal support from interdisciplinary partner groups for whom we have relationships with including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA), National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO), National Sheriffs' Association (NSA), Emergency Responder Safety Institute (ERSI), and the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Assisting both Congressman Jim McGovern and Senator Blumenthal in securing co-sponsors in their respective chambers will be our primary focus during TRAA's upcoming annual Legislative Action Workshop & Hill Day in DC this June

The resolution is an important piece of legislation that supports the goals and ideals of a National Move Over Law Day and urges the national, state, and regional incident management organizations to promote existence of and adherence to state Move Over Laws. The resolution will bring much needed awareness to state Move Over Laws and serve as a platform for future legislation to implement federal Move Over Law provisions.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
